County approves city policing contracts and awards sheriff's parking-lot contract to low bidder

A sheriff’s-office representative briefed the board that the department provides law enforcement services to three incorporated towns (Minneapolis, Danville and Middletown) and that the contracts reflect a roughly 4.7–4.8% increase over last year driven largely by wages, benefits and equipment. "They're very happy with the service," the sheriff’s representative said of the contracted towns.
On a separate item, public-works staff recommended awarding the sheriff's parking-lot replacement to low bidder Jones Contracting after an eight-bid competition. Staff said the engineer’s estimate was about $300,000. Public-works staff described necessary regrading to meet handicap-access standards, accommodations to minimize disruption near the building, and a contract start date listed as Aug. 3 with 32 working days to complete the work. A motion to approve the sheriff's parking-lot contract carried.
