Residents urge clarity on dispatch closure and praise volunteers as committee approves tent permit and accepts construction official resignation

During the public-comment period at the June 10 Rochelle Park Township Committee work session, residents raised concerns about the township’s dispatch arrangements and administrative spending while also praising volunteer efforts at the community garden.
Bob Davidson, a resident, asked for clarification of Resolution 26-173 (a capital-budget amendment). Officials explained the resolution is a procedural step connected with introducing a bond ordinance to fund the sanitary-sewer pump station.
Resident Linda Bonaface said a township mailing she received claimed the town had "recently invested $300,000 into an RP dispatch center just now to shut it down," and she asked what happened to the old police console in the municipal building. She also questioned the township administrator’s salary, saying it was $140,000 in her statement, and suggested the township consider buying property near Carlock Field to add parking. At the meeting, no official presented a detailed financial reconciliation of the dispatch equipment or the mailer’s assertions; attendees were told the dispatch console had been moved to a secondary facility in 2019.
Michael Warren, chair of the Shade Tree Commission, thanked volunteers and DPW staff for recent plantings along Verdan and asked residents to help water newly planted trees. Warren said trees with watering "alligator bags" are most vulnerable and recommended watering from mid-June to about mid-September; he noted that contractors sometimes provide a warranty and some failed trees could be replaced.
On the consent agenda the committee approved Resolution 174, authorizing temporary tent placements for dining and nonprofit vendors for a six-week period (subject to police, fire, building and health approvals and a $4,500 fee tied to World Cup events), and Resolution 175, accepting the resignation of Construction Official James D. Marina effective Aug. 1. The consent agenda was approved by roll call.
The committee closed public comment and moved on to introduce ordinances and other business.
