Rochelle Park creates ad-hoc committee to move dispatch to Burton County operations center

The Rochelle Park Township Committee voted June 10 to form an ad-hoc transition committee to coordinate the township’s move of 911/dispatch services to the Burton County Public Safety Operations Center.

Mayor Miller announced the appointments and said Township Administrator Samantha Carpio and Lieutenant Ed Kakowski will lead the effort, joined by Police Chief Dean Pinto, Captain Depa, Fire Chief Charlie Greco Jr. and Deputy Fire Chief Jason Brown. Committeewoman Terresa Judge Grabella was named police commissioner on the committee and the mayor said she will serve on the group as well.

The committee’s charge, as stated at the meeting, is to coordinate operational, technical and public-communications elements of the transition and to ensure continuity of service for Rochelle Park residents. No vote on final transfer authority or contract terms was taken at the work session; the announcement established the working group to oversee planning and coordination.

Officials did not provide a public timeline for completing the transfer or detailed contract terms during the meeting. The formation of the committee follows prior discussions about regionalizing dispatch operations; members said the intent is to minimize service interruptions while technical and operational integrations proceed.

The committee is expected to report back to the Township Committee with updates and recommended next steps; meeting attendees were told the group will involve municipal and public-safety staff.
