Board approves FY2026 budget amendment, raises capital projects total to $18.9 million

The Limestone County Board of Education approved Fiscal Year 2026 budget amendment one, a change required by the state and submitted with a June 15 deadline, the board said.

Miss Hubard delivered the financial presentation explaining adjustments to beginning and ending fund balances, newly reported state and federal revenues (including allocations tied to the Alabama reading initiative, numeracy and math intervention programs and school safety grants) and reclassifications to the special revenue column. She said about $1.5 million was moved into a payable account and that one-month fund balance stood at about $13.1 million. She described total expenses in the district budget on the order of $91 million.

Miss Hubard said the capital projects total was adjusted to $18.9 million to reflect previously planned technology expenditures (about $13 million originally budgeted) plus additional projects including work at Johnson and Blue Springs and turf for the football field. Board members asked why the beginning fund balance had decreased by roughly $5 million; Miss Hubard explained that year-end reconciliations, state edits and timing differences can change the reported beginning balance between the original budget and the amendment.

The board discussed one-and-done status for this amendment and noted the state had not yet approved some allocations (for example, an advancement of technology fund application). After questions, the board voted to approve the amendment; the meeting transcript records the vote as unanimous.

The amendment will be filed with the state as required. Several routine items were also approved during the meeting, including the consent agenda and personnel actions.
