The Board of Equalization publicly honored Lisa Thompson at its May 27 meeting with a retirement resolution recognizing 35 years of service to the state and the Taxpayer Rights Advocate Office.
The read resolution detailed Thompson’s career progression — from tax auditor and appraiser roles through senior property-appraiser and business-tax administration to her appointment as chief of the Taxpayer Rights Advocate Office — and credited her with improving taxpayer education and cross‑jurisdictional collaboration with county assessors.
Colleagues described Thompson as a tireless caseworker and mentor. "If there's ever a complex tax question... I go to Lisa. I know I'm going to get the answer," Lisa Renady, chief deputy director, said during the tributes. A stakeholder from Ryan LLC praised Thompson’s steady, professional approach to resolving taxpayer issues.
Thompson thanked colleagues and the board and noted TR office accomplishments, including 15 information sheets and an information guide for disaster relief for damaged or destroyed property. "I leave with a sense of gratitude for all colleagues past and present that I was so fortunate to have worked with during my 35 years at the agency," Thompson said.
The board presented remarks, flowers and applause and recessed for lunch following the tributes.
