Sarah Higgins elected chair; Deb Raymond chosen vice chair as committee assigns subcommittees

At its June 9 meeting the East Ham School Committee elected Sarah Higgins chair and Deb Raymond vice chair, filled Union 54 representation slots and assigned members to budget, negotiations and wellness roles.
The East Ham School Committee completed its annual reorganization at the start of the June 9 meeting.
Nominations and votes: A committee member nominated Sarah Higgins for chair; the nomination was seconded and approved by roll call (Anna Beman, Deborah Raymond, Lindsay Palmer and Sarah Higgins recorded as yes). Deb Raymond was nominated and seconded for vice chair and approved unanimously.
Assignments: The committee named warrant authorizer and alternates, designated three voting members and two alternates to represent the district on the Union 54 joint committee (voting members and alternates identified), and assigned members to subcommittees including central-office budget, contract negotiations, the mental-health/wellness task force, school council liaisons and Cape Cod Collaborative representation. Members discussed meeting schedules and whether meetings require in-person attendance or can be attended virtually.
The reorganization concluded with the chair turning the meeting over to the newly elected chair to continue with the agenda.
