Sagadahoc commissioners approve hires, appointments, holiday schedule and IT cabling; consent agenda passes

The Sagadahoc County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 9 approved a slate of personnel and administrative actions, accepted the county’s 2026 holiday schedule and authorized an IT cabling project needed to implement a secondary internet service provider.
In votes that were unanimous, the board authorized an updated job description for the Sheriff’s Lieutenant position, approved the hire of Matthew Fischer as a Patrol Deputy and approved the hire of Dominic Marco as a Domestic Violence Investigator after a recommendation from Shaundra Vanella, Manager of the District Attorney’s Office. Vanella described Marco as a Bath resident with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and previous experience at Phippsburg Police Department; she said the D.A.’s Office will cover reimbursement costs from an unspent DVI pay line.
Also by unanimous vote the Commissioners appointed Juanita Wilson and Nathaniel Shipley to three-year terms on the Board of Assessment Review through Dec. 31, 2029, and accepted the proposed 2026 holiday schedule. Administrator Amber Jones confirmed staff may use leave if they choose to close on adjacent Fridays when Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Thursdays.
On technology, the board authorized a cabling project recommended by IT Director Field to run Cat6 cables from the server room to firewalls on multiple floors so a secondary ISP can be implemented. Administrator Jones read Field’s explanation of necessity and said funding would come from Communications’ repairs and maintenance for radio equipment.
The meeting opened with a unanimous approval of the consent agenda, which included department reports, minutes from Oct. 28 and Nov. 13, November accounts payable and payroll warrants and November financials.
No member of the public spoke during the public comment period. The meeting ended after routine committee reports and a short discussion about scheduling a January workshop for municipal leaders on county tax apportionment options.
