Parkland board approves internships, contracts and 2026–27 calendar after public pushback

The parent said many area districts publish calendars a year in advance and urged Parkland to do the same.
Board members acknowledged the concerns and said the district would aim to present working drafts earlier in future cycles and coordinate with nine neighboring districts that share career‑technical programming. “We want to make sure that we bring the calendar, at least a draft, a working draft to the board earlier in the process,” one board member said during discussion.
A range of facility and finance items also passed: change orders and closeout items for the Education & Operations building, a five‑year renewal with Penn Teledata for point‑to‑point transport services, a maintenance agreement with McClure under CoStars, and a resolution to apply for the Public School Improvement Facility grant through DCED (the board discussion noted the grant may require a local match in the final application).
What the votes mean: most items were ordinary approvals to continue district operations and partnerships that will allow student internships, maintain technology and reinforce extracurricular programming. The calendar vote represents an operational decision with immediate community impact; board members said they would improve the calendar development timeline to give families more notice.
