Marshall Village Board approves 2026–27 appointments and temporary $5/hour pay increase for deputy clerk

Marshall — The Marshall Village Board on April 21 swore in two newly elected trustees and approved its 2026–2027 slate of board and committee appointments, then authorized a temporary pay increase for the deputy clerk to cover statutory clerk responsibilities until a replacement is hired.
Clerk Michael Wetzel administered the oath to Trustee Edward Schmitz (incumbent) and Trustee Sean Young. No board vote was required for the swearing-in.
Wetzel then reviewed the proposed 2026–2027 appointments list and described the Building Committee as an ad hoc advisory committee without legislative authority that will work in conjunction with the Parks & Recreation Committee; he said the Building Committee’s work will be routed through Parks before any items reach the Village Board and that no Plan Commission review is required because there are no planning or zoning considerations.
Trustee Elesa Kinder asked to serve as the trustee alternate on the Parks & Recreation Committee. President John Schuepbach named the Youth Club and Lion’s Club representatives for the Building Committee; Clerk Wetzel noted Kevin Moreland (a Town of Medina resident) and Public Works Director Matt Pitzer may serve as nonvoting members on that committee.
Trustee Elesa Kinder moved to approve the 2026–2027 appointee list with the additions — Trustee Kinder as the Trustee Alternate for the Parks & Recreation Committee, Cari Cleven as the Youth Club representative on the Building Committee, and Kevin Moreland as the Lion’s Club representative on the Building Committee — and Trustee Julie Bowman seconded. The motion carried 5–0.
Later on the agenda, Wetzel relayed a memo from Administrator Brandon Bledsoe recommending a temporary $5.00-per-hour pay increase for Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Madison Myers. Wetzel said Myers will perform statutory clerk duties after his departure, including minute-taking, annual tobacco and alcohol licensing, and elections administration, until a new clerk is hired. Trustee Elesa Kinder moved to approve the temporary increase, Trustee Edward Schmitz seconded, and the motion carried 5–0. The increase is to begin Monday, May 11 and continue until the new clerk’s start date.
Having completed the listed business, Trustee Edward Schmitz moved to adjourn; Trustee Julie Bowman seconded and the board adjourned at 8:04 p.m.
