Roanoke board approves personnel list; appoints interim Westside principal and hires Patrick Henry principal and HR director

At the June 9 meeting the Roanoke City School Board approved the presented personnel list and heard introductions from several incoming leaders who will begin July 1.
Superintendent Dr. White announced Crystal Patezel’s appointment as interim principal of Westside Elementary for a one‑year term; Patezel said she will prioritize continuity, literacy and social‑emotional supports. The board then welcomed Rand Deskins, who accepted the principalship at Patrick Henry High School and described classroom‑first leadership priorities. Dr. White also introduced John Michael Deeds as the incoming executive director of human resources; Deeds thanked the board and described a "people first, system second" philosophy.
The personnel list was moved by Miss Quintana and seconded by Miss Trigg and approved by voice vote. Board members congratulated each appointee and expressed appreciation for their willingness to lead in new roles.
