The Roanoke City School Board on June 9 adopted a resolution of appreciation recognizing Dr. Elizabeth C. S. Jamieson for nearly nine years of service to the division.
Chair Apel read the resolution, which notes Jamieson’s leadership during the COVID‑19 pandemic, service as board vice chair (2020–22) and chair (2022–25), participation on numerous committees and task forces, and work helping develop the equity framework and the Charles W. Day Technical Education Center (DATAEC). "The Roanoke City School Board extends its sincere appreciation and thanks to Dr. Elizabeth C. S. Jamieson for her many years of service to the children of the Roanoke community," the resolution states.
Board members offered personal tributes. Miss Quintana praised Jamieson’s mentorship and friendship; Miss Trigg described Jamieson’s guidance as both moving and uplifting; Vice Chair Cherry reflected on Jamieson’s passion and the mentorship she provided to newer board members. Jamieson responded briefly, calling the remarks a "humbling experience" and citing a graduation‑day quotation: "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."
The motion to adopt the resolution was moved by Mister Cherry and seconded by Miss Watkins; the board approved it by voice vote and recessed for photographs.
