Adams County proclaims June 2026 as Pride Month; commissioners, advocates highlight visibility and inclusion

Adams County commissioners unanimously adopted a proclamation declaring June 2026 as Pride Month, citing the history of the LGBTQIA+ rights movement and the county’s commitment to dignity and inclusion.

Commissioner Emma Pinter read the proclamation, referencing the Stonewall uprising and saying Pride “reaffirms our commitment to treating all people with support, respect, and above all pride.” Pinter described her own coming-out experience in elected office and thanked colleagues for their support, saying their actions have “shown up in large and small ways.”

Commissioner Henson and Commissioner Horizio also spoke in support. Henson encouraged residents to attend the county’s Pride celebration Saturday at Riverdale Regional Park from noon to 6 p.m., and called diversity “a superpower.” Chair Mullica invited attendees to join a group photo after the proclamation.

During public comment, Cash, education and training manager for Rocky Mountain Equality, thanked the commissioners for the proclamation and said visibility and affirmation are “the difference between feeling welcome and feeling alone” for LGBTQIA+ residents.

Why it matters: The proclamation is a ceremonial recognition that signals county-level support for LGBTQIA+ residents and employees. Commissioners also used the moment to promote community Pride events and to encourage county staff and residents to participate.

The board moved on to other business after remarks and invited the public for a photo with commissioners following the reading.
