Grandview committee narrows priority community assets to guide Climate Element

Councilmembers selected one priority community asset per sector — including grocery stores, educational facilities, parks and wastewater treatment — to focus goals and implementation in the Comprehensive Plan Climate Element.
The Grandview Committee-of-the-Whole reviewed the Planning Commission’s recommended list of community assets for the Comprehensive Plan Climate Element and selected a single priority asset in each sector to concentrate goals, policies and implementation strategies.
Selected priority assets include grocery stores for agriculture and food systems; educational facilities for buildings and energy; community gatherings (festivals, fairs and summer concerts) for cultural resources; agricultural industries for economic development; the Yakima River/Game Ponds near the wastewater treatment plant for ecosystems; emergency response services (fire and police) for emergency management; parks and recreation for health and well-being; multimodal transportation for transportation; wastewater treatment facilities for waste management; municipal and well drinking water supply for water resources; and single- and multi-family residential densities for zoning and development.
Staff will prepare a resolution formalizing the selections for consideration at the next regular Council meeting and begin drafting goals and implementation actions for the Climate Element based on those priorities.
