City committee accepts checklist for British Parkway multi-use path; residents, advocates press for regional connections

The Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee accepted staff’s checklist June 10 for a proposed Class I multi-use path along British Parkway (Manifus to Monaceel), a project that would include environmental review, construction and design where feasibility is confirmed.
Staff said the scope for ATP submittal must remain under a $10 million threshold to avoid additional state requirements; retaining walls, drainage and a potential bridge across a creek are cost drivers. Committee members and members of the public said a small but critical gap (about 100 feet) between planned segments would interrupt continuity unless the city coordinates property acquisition or ties the gap to a nearby interchange project.
Public commenters urged staff to frame this and similar segments as part of the North San Rafael Promenade regional pathway so grant reviewers and the public see the network value rather than isolated segments. The committee accepted the checklist by voice vote.
