Cusseta–Chattahoochee County proposes flat millage rate of 8.512 mills after two public hearings

The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County held two public hearings about the fiscal‑year 2025 millage rate and presented a proposed rate of 8.512 mills.
At a called public hearing on Aug. 19, Chairman Charles Coffey and County Manager Thomas Weaver said the rate would be “basically staying the same” as the prior year; the school board’s rate was noted as 17.30. No members of the public attended the Aug. 19 hearing. At a second public hearing on Aug. 26 the commission again presented the 8.512 mill proposal, walked through the digest and five‑year history and invited public comment; the hearing closed after a brief comment period.
County Manager Weaver told the board the county’s gross digest increased by just under $64 million and thanked the Tax Assessor and the Tax Commissioner for preparing the digest and public notices. The manager also said that a called meeting on Aug. 19 had been used to publicize the proposed rate and that the commission would add formal adoption to the Sept. 3 regular meeting agenda.
The proposed 8.512 mill rate was presented as effectively flat year‑over‑year; the minutes record no vote on the rate at the Aug. 6 regular meeting, and the work session and public hearings in August served to inform the public before the adoption vote scheduled for Sept. 3.
