Committee assigns website, grant research and adopt‑a‑tree tasks; aims to recruit younger volunteers

The Bridgewater Tree Committee set a series of follow-up tasks to support its planting, treatment and outreach work: staff will create or update a Tree Committee web page; Brian will research potential grants and return with findings in August; and committee members will plan an adopt‑a‑tree program and seedling distribution to local schools in coordination with Arbor Day programming.

Josh described the proposed web page content (planting request forms, donation/adopt‑a‑tree information, seasonal tree care tips and links to extension resources such as UMass Extension horticulture notes). Committee members agreed to review a draft list of sections and email Josh with suggested content; staff will assemble the materials for a vote at the next meeting.

On grants and technical planning, members said a prioritized downtown tree inventory—combined with GIS mapping and a succession plan—would strengthen grant applications. Nicole and others proposed beginning with a defined downtown study area (the revitalization/redevelopment area) and using a consultant for mapping if grant funds can be secured.

Members also discussed outreach to younger residents and local institutions: suggestions included writing periodic articles for local media and partnering with the college and schools to engage students in planting projects. The committee set a tentative timeline: review website edits and species lists, gather mapping resources, and reconvene in August with Brian's grant report and a Broad Street proposal.
