Jeff Davis briefed the Cameron Parish Police Jury on June 8 that utility crews plan a full-day outage this Thursday to tie in the Sterley substation. The outage is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and the maximum permitted outage window is 10 hours under DOTD permitting for the required road closure.
The utility has rescheduled the tie-in multiple times because of weather and is attempting to perform the work before summer heat increases the technical difficulty. Jurors and staff discussed the potential conflict with the Holly Beach crab festival and the effect on renters arriving for the event; Jeff Davis said the contractor expects to meet the 10-hour limit and cited past successful tie-ins where crews beat scheduled times.
Jurors asked about the extent of the outage. Jeff Davis said it will be a complete outage for the service area served by the existing tie and noted additional substations (Pound and Hacket) remain to be tied in later. He and jurors encouraged public notice to affected residents and businesses and coordination to minimize community impact.
Next steps: the utility will proceed with the planned tie-in subject to weather; the parish will coordinate permit requirements with DOTD and notify residents and event organizers about the outage window.
