Dawes County approves veteran transport MOU, $216,200 Crawford policing contract and several routine actions

Robert Jordan, the county Veterans Service Officer, told commissioners that under a previous memorandum of understanding with Open Plains Transit the veterans office had been reimbursed $1.00 per mile and had "approximately $10,000.00" collected to date. The board approved a new MOU increasing the reimbursement rate to $1.50 per mile and directed the VSO to sign the agreement.
The board reviewed and approved a Crawford law-enforcement agreement totaling $216,200 annually (the minutes note this includes all officer benefits). The contract was moved, seconded and approved by roll call with Commissioners Jake Stewart, Vic Rivera and Walter Juhlin voting aye.
The board also approved a petition from Sam Nordick to dig across Norman and Indian Creek Roads for water access after discussing difficulties locating contractors to bore a previous approval; the motion passed unanimously. A Weed Department request to surplus two metal gates and two hog panels was approved and the clerk was instructed to post notice of sealed bids for one week.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the agenda, minutes and audited claims; the minutes include a detailed itemized list of vendors and amounts across county funds. The board held an executive session on personnel and reconvened with no action taken.
