North Clackamas DAC elects new representatives; special meeting set to discuss funding

The North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) District Advisory Committee conducted candidate introductions, breakout discussions and a poll-based vote during a virtual meeting, selecting new local advisory representatives and scheduling a special meeting on district funding.
Sheila, the meeting chair, explained the process before the vote and outlined that each registered attendee would vote once for a candidate from their subarea. "If there are two positions in a subarea, the person with the most votes becomes the DAC member and the person with the second-most votes becomes the alternate," she said, describing how winners and alternates would be determined and how a winner's preference could alter assignments.
Erin Rome, NCPRD planning and development director, presented a map and district facts, saying NCPRD "serves 106,000 residents and has an area of 27 square miles" and manages 38 parks, trails and natural areas across five subareas. The map showed the district extending north near Portland and south to Gladstone.
Candidates introduced themselves in subarea breakout rooms. Isaac Sanders, a professional fish and wildlife biologist who said he works with the Clackamas River Basin Council, and Linda Newman, who is finishing an unexpired term for subarea 1, both spoke about their ties to local trails and community service. In subarea 2, Benjamin Cox described volunteer work with youth sports and an interest in increasing Oak Grove resident participation; another candidate, Vanessa (recorded in the meeting with variant spellings), said she has been an Oak Grove-area resident for about 20 years and participates in the Oak Grove Community Council.
After troubleshooting breakout-room technical issues and reconciling a small number of multi-person/device ballots, the committee used a Zoom poll to record votes. Sheila announced the results: Linda Newman will serve as the subarea 1 DAC representative with Isaac Sanders as alternate; Vanessa Dane Seagel will serve as the subarea 2 DAC representative with Benjamin Cox as alternate. Jazz Bleecker was identified as filling one of the openings in subarea 4; staff said they would contact Jazz to determine whether she prefers the DAC seat or the alternate role.
Sheila said candidate names — regular and alternates — will be submitted to the NCPRD board of directors for formal approval. She also outlined onboarding steps: successful candidates will receive a welcome packet and Jessica (staff) will coordinate an onboarding meeting. The first official meeting for newly approved DAC members is scheduled for July 8 at the Concord Community Center.
Sheila closed by noting two near-term public meetings: a June 10 special DAC meeting (5:30–7 p.m.) to present information on NCPRD's funding situation and options, and a June 24 meeting of the NCPRD board of directors (6–7:30 p.m.).
