Bluff — Council members moved to identify an order of succession for the town's emergency manager and to name people authorized to send emergency alerts, meeting a state deadline of July 1 imposed by recent legislation.
Mayor said the town must submit the names of four people in order of succession for emergency management; if the town fails to do so, statutory defaults will apply. He volunteered to be the primary emergency manager with Town Manager Aaron Nelson as the second in succession, and proposed administrative staff and trained responders as third and fourth options.
The council discussed training needs, incident-command familiarity and whether a council member or a local experienced responder should be included. The mayor suggested adding the fire chief to the list of those authorized to issue emergency alerts.
Aaron Nelson said administrative staff would support the effort and that the town will work to provide basic incident-command training for designated people. The council instructed staff to finalize and submit the succession and alert-authority list ahead of July 1.
