Warrick County Drainage Board approves local drainage fixes, equipment rental and contractor pay application

Warrick County’s Drainage Board approved several routine actions June 8, including a drainage fix at a commercial property, a one-day heavy-equipment rental to clear a ditch, and a contractor pay application for a sewer/ditch project.

Heritage Federal Credit Union drainage work: Mike Nykerk of Nykerk Engineering described plans to lower and install a concrete curb-and-gutter along the interior drive adjoining Fellows Drive and State Route 66 to stop water seepage into a building whose exterior ground is higher than the finished floor. "The goal of this project is just to get the water away from the building to the south," Nykerk said. The board reviewed site photos and plans and approved the proposed curb-and-gutter installation; the motion was approved by voice vote.

Howard Williams ditch equipment rental: Staff said the Howard Williams ditch, which runs from under I-69 to State Route 66 near the Deaconess Gateway area, requires a long-reach excavator to finish removing silt in front of two culverts. The county discussed renting a Hyundai HX300 excavator (60-foot reach). The rental rate discussed was $2,000 for one day plus a delivery/permit charge of $600 each way, producing an estimated total around $3,200 for a one-day operation; the board approved the rental by voice vote.

Westwood A&B pay application: Mr. Sherwood reported that Koberstein, the low bidder on the Westwood A&B contract ($209,700), submitted pay application No. 1 for May for $12,800 (about 6% of the contract). Sherwood said he had confirmed the work and recommended approval; the board approved the pay application by voice vote (3-0).
