Benicia Unified board approves consent items, personnel report and Multilingual Learner Master Plan

The Governing Board approved the consent calendar and a series of resolutions and personnel actions during its regular meeting. In closed session the board approved the Student Attendance Committee recommendation to readmit student number 25-026 from a stipulated expulsion on a motion by Trustee Miceli, seconded by Trustee Hirsch (vote recorded as 5-0).
With the personnel report approved in open session, Principal Kleinschmidt introduced Gladys Mooten as the new vice principal of Venetia High School. Mooten thanked the board: "I'm very, very excited, and just wanna make sure that you guys know that I'm here for the community of Benicia," she said.
The board moved several affirmative votes on agenda items: adoption of recommended CSBA board policies and bylaws, approval of Resolution 25-26-48 (declaration of obsolete tech equipment), Resolution 25-26-50 (obsolete items for Venetian Middle School), and Resolution 25-26-51 regarding the Education Protection Account. Trustees also approved an MOU with CalTeach to host teacher credentialing interns and approved an MOU granting additional paid release time for the Benicia Teachers Association president under a CTA grant (the meeting record notes a board member would not participate in that vote). Finally, the board approved the Benicia Unified Multilingual Learner Master Plan presented by Stephanie Rice and Brenda Strassner and adopted the district Declaration of Need (CL-500) for fully qualified educators for 2026-27.
Votes on the listed items were recorded as carried; staff said the multilingual plan will be posted to the district website under educational services. The board adjourned back to closed session at the end of the meeting; the next regular meeting was noted for Tuesday, June 16.
