The Benzie County Board recorded a series of formal actions during its Feb. 10 meeting. Key outcomes include:
• Payment of bills: Motion by Walterhouse, seconded by Tucker, to approve payment of bills totaling $1,201,822.58 — approved on roll call with Commissioners Bates, Carland, Sauer, Tucker, Walterhouse and Warsecke voting aye; Griner excused.
• Emergency Action Guidelines: Motion by Walterhouse, seconded by Sauer, to approve minor changes and authorize the chair to sign — approved on roll call (Bates, Carland, Sauer, Tucker, Walterhouse and Warsecke aye; Griner excused).
• Retiring sergeants' pistols: Motion by Walterhouse, seconded by Warsecke, to approve funding two pistols for retiring Sergeants Fallowfield and Baesch while allowing them to keep their service pistols — approved (Ayes: Bates, Carland, Sauer, Walterhouse and Warsecke; Nay: Tucker; Griner excused).
• Server purchase & loan: Accepted Wyant quote of $52,593 and authorized borrowing $26,296.50 from the Delinquent Tax Revolving Fund for partial payment; repayment budgeted in 2015–2016 by 911/Dispatch, the Jail and the Sheriff’s Department at $8,765.50 each.
• Fee changes: Board set the cremation permit fee at $40 (motion by Bates, seconded by Tucker) and approved reducing the prisoner housing fee from $60 to $35 per day until default (motion by Bates, seconded by Warsecke); both motions carried with present members voting aye and Griner excused.
• Appointments and contracts: Reappointed Betty Workman to the Workforce Development Board (term through Dec. 31, 2016); authorized a contract with Valley City Electronics Recycling, Inc. for electronics collections in May, July and August 2015.
• Other governance actions: Approved the 2015 Tentative Ratio Report and adopted replacement wording for board rule 4.127 regarding term of appointment for commissioners serving on committees.
All recorded roll-call votes show Commissioner Griner excused. Where recorded, motions show who moved and seconded. Several items were handled on consent with individual items removed by commissioners for separate consideration.
