Benzie County approves $52,593 server upgrade and $26,296.50 short-term loan from delinquent tax fund

The Benzie County Board voted Feb. 10 to purchase and install a Service Array Network Server to upgrade its CAD, Mobile and RMS systems and authorized a partial loan to complete the payment.
Motion by Chair Vance Bates, seconded by Commissioner Tucker, accepted the Wyant quote of $52,593 for purchase and installation of the server hardware. The motion carried on roll call, with Commissioners Bates, Carland, Sauer, Tucker, Walterhouse and Warsecke voting aye and Commissioner Griner excused.
To cover part of the cost up front, the board voted to borrow $26,296.50 from the Delinquent Tax Revolving Fund. That borrowing was authorized by motion of Bates, seconded by Warsecke; the board recorded the plan to budget repayment in fiscal year 2015–2016 with 911/Dispatch, the Jail and the Sheriff’s Department each repaying $8,765.50.
County staff described the server upgrade as necessary to support CAD (computer-aided dispatch), mobile data and RMS (records management system) workloads; the Wyant quote and the repayment plan were presented as budgeted, capital IT work tied to county public-safety systems.
The board did not attach additional conditions to the purchase beyond the borrowing and repayment schedule. The purchase and loan were among several fiscal actions approved during the Feb. 10 meeting, which also included routine bill payments and fee adjustments.
