The Chair of the Beaver County Board of Commissioners said the annual Jenny Lee triathlon at Brady's Red Park will close roads for a short period during a Friday course preview and again Saturday and Sunday from about 5 a.m. to 4 p.m., and that the sheriff's office will handle closures for an event the Chair estimated draws about 3,000 people.
The announcement came during a commissioners' work session ahead of a regular meeting where the board will consider 21 resolutions. The Chair singled out items 3 through 11, a package totaling $128,000 earmarked to various libraries across Beaver County, and said item 12 is an agreement with an appraiser to determine market values for county-owned properties that would be put out for public bid; the Chair said there are "probably about uh maybe a dozen or so" such parcels countywide.
Separately, the solicitor noted the downtown parking garage remains closed. Officials said they are optimistic about progress and are "fingers crossed" that the facility could reopen by the end of the month, but added that a firm contractor date is required before an official reopening notice.
The Chair also previewed additional items on the upcoming agenda, including placement-service contracts and consulting work for Main Street programs and borough communities. No formal votes on those resolutions were recorded in the work session discussion.
The board closed the public portion of the meeting and moved into an executive session to address litigation matters raised by the solicitor; any actions on the previewed resolutions will be recorded when the board convenes its regular meeting.
