Adrian Wills, Clark County animal shelter director, told the fiscal court during public comment that Friends of the Park County Animal Shelter received an unexpected bequest of $39,124 from the estate of Jake and Betty Bailey.
"Both were lovers of animals and in honor of this, a generous gift of $39,124 was left to Friends of the Park County Animal Shelter," Wills said, and described how the funds will support programs that otherwise would not be available to the community. She identified the nonprofit and said the money will expand medical care for sick and injured shelter animals, transport animals to rescue and foster homes, support a pet food bank for struggling owners and grow the spay-and-neuter assistance program.
Wills said shelter staff and the Friends group are grateful to the Bailey family and that the shelter would bring forward program details and requests driven by the gift. Family members of the donors were present in the meeting to be acknowledged.
Wills spoke in her capacity as both the county's animal shelter director and as an advisory member of Friends of the Park County Animal Shelter. She asked whether the county or shelter would consider a plaque or other recognition; the court acknowledged the suggestion and discussed existing kennel dedications.
The announcement does not commit county funds; it notifies the court of an external private bequest to the nonprofit partner that supports shelter operations.
