The California Board of Registered Nursing’s Nurse Practice Committee voted unanimously to recommend a change in internal workflow: committee members will do substantive regulatory and advisory work at the committee level and forward those recommendations to the full board as information or consent items unless a board member specifically requests discussion.
Executive Officer Lori Melby framed the change as a timesaving measure that reduces duplicate presentations to the full board while preserving the board’s ability to pull items for discussion. Chair Nila Patel moved the recommendation; Hovita Dominguez seconded. The committee recorded a unanimous vote (Patel, Dominguez, Granowitz) in favor of forwarding the proposal to the full board for consideration.
Melby said the board will still be able to request additional information or pull matters for discussion at the board meeting; the committee’s recommendation is procedural and designed to streamline the board agenda.
