The California Board of Registered Nursing’s Nurse Practice Committee voted unanimously to recommend Matthew Hubs to fill the committee’s public‑member vacancy on the Nursing Education Workforce Advisory Committee (NEWAC).
At the committee meeting, Executive Officer Lori Melby told members staff received about 300 applications for several advisory vacancies but most applicants were registered nurses and thus ineligible for the public‑member slot. Melby said one applicant met screening requirements and that staff had vetted that candidate before bringing the recommendation to the committee.
Board member Vicky Granowitz moved to recommend Hubs; the motion received a second and the committee recorded unanimous approval with Chair Nila Patel, Granowitz and Hovita Dominguez voting yes. Melby said the committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the full board for a final appointment vote next month.
The committee’s action was procedural and advisory; Melby noted that the full board will consider the nomination and may accept the committee’s recommendation or request further review.
