Pelotonia tells Beexley council it raised millions, adds shorter route to ease capacity

Pelotonia representatives updated Beexley City Council on June 9 about the event's local impact and route changes designed to ease capacity on popular rides.

Joe Abgar, introduced as the CEO of Pelotonia (also referenced as Pelletania/Pelletoni*a* in the packet), said Team Beexley will cross $5 million raised for cancer research this year and that 12,200 residents have participated across teams. "Almost 8,000 residents have donated more than $4 million," Abgar said, thanking city staff, police, volunteers and the community for supporting riders and fundraising.

Organizers announced an added sub-20-mile route and a 17-mile "party route" to reduce congestion on longer segments after last year's capacity issues. Abgar said the change was driven by participant safety and experience: "The only way we could problem solve that for the larger community was to add another route." He asked for continued partnership from the city and noted police resources will be needed to close streets and manage traffic.

Council members asked clarifying questions about dates and logistics. Suzanne (a volunteer leader) confirmed the Pedal for Pancakes children's rides on Saturday, June 13, starting at 9 a.m., and said local volunteers and police provide critical operational support for the event.
