Commission OKs Little Platte playground upgrade and ADA asphalt work for county marinas

The Clay County Commission approved two parks projects: a Little Platte playground renovation funded by a state grant plus donations and a contract for ADA-related asphalt and access work at county marinas.
Parks Director John Davis told the commission the Little Platte project received a $75,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to replace wood mulch with a poured rubber surface and that J. Dunn and Google donated $17,492 toward an inclusive whirl (a wheelchair-accessible round play unit). Davis asked the commission to approve a cooperative-purchase agreement (OMNIA/TIPS) for materials and installation totaling $218,897.

Separately, Davis described ADA improvements at Camp Branch Marina and Paradise Point Marina, including new ramps, parking surfacing and ADA signage and striping. The commission approved an agreement with McConnell and Associates through a TIPS cooperative contract for the three asphalt/access projects for a total amount reported at the meeting of roughly $78,560.
Commissioners asked about project timing and confirmed the work is intended to make boat ramps and marina access usable by the end of the summer. Both the playground and ADA asphalt contracts were approved on roll-call votes, each passing unanimously 5-0.
Next steps: Parks staff will proceed with procurement and scheduling under the approved cooperative agreements; county staff indicated the marina ramps should be accessible by the end of summer if contractors meet the schedule.
