The St. Martin Parish Council unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 21-07-1325-OR on July 6, 2021, approving revised written descriptions for the parish's 2021 precincts and formally designating polling locations for each precinct.
The ordinance amends Exhibit A of a prior 2019 ordinance to correct street and boundary names and to list polling sites for the 2021 precincts. The text appended to the ordinance includes detailed legal descriptions and a polling location for each precinct, naming sites such as Belle River Recreation Complex (Precinct 1), Stephensville Volunteer Fire Station (Precinct 2), St. Martinville Primary School (Precincts 5 and 10), Breaux Bridge Senior High School (Precincts 15 and 21), and others across the parish.
Council members said the amended Exhibit A provides more accurate written descriptions and did not change the boundaries previously adopted in 2019. Clerk of the Council Brooke Gillespie read the ordinance summaries during the public hearing; no members of the public offered comment during the hearing, and the ordinance was adopted by unanimous roll call.
Why it matters: the ordinance finalizes precinct-level polling locations and corrected legal descriptions ahead of future elections, which municipal and parish election officials use to prepare ballots, polling staff, and voter notices. The ordinance takes effect immediately upon approval and the signature of the Parish President.
What to watch next: the parish will publish the amended Exhibit A as part of its ordinance records; any later changes to precinct boundaries or polling places would require further council action.
