Commission approves reappointments, personnel changes, tennis-court contract time extension and names Quiet Avenue

The Upshur County Commission approved a package of personnel and project items during the May 28 meeting.
Reappointments included Jesse Davidson to the Upshur County Fire Board for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2026; Chris Cook and Edward Ware to the Safe Structures and Sites Enforcement Board through June 30, 2028; and Mary Dean and KJ Woody to the Buckhannon-Upshur Airport Authority for terms July 1, 2026'June 30, 2029. The commission accepted the resignation of part-time Lewis-Upshur Animal Control employee Brittany Radcliff and authorized an advertisement for a part-time/fill-in position (applications due June 12, 2026).
The commission approved removal of a seasonal admissions employee at the Upshur County Recreational Park effective immediately, authorized additional seasonal employees for the park effective May 31, 2026 (employment to end on or about Aug. 8 unless extended), and approved one additional full-time seasonal employee at the Upshur County Youth Camp effective May 31.
On infrastructure items, the commission approved Change Order #1 for the tennis court rehabilitation project to extend contract time while subgrade remediation is assessed; County Administrator Tabatha R. Perry said the contractor requested a 30-day extension due to weather delays and that the change order does not change the contract price. Separately, a previously tabled Elevator Modernization Project bid-opening and potential award at the Courthouse Annex remained tabled; Assistant County Administrator Cindy M. Hughes said no new information is available and the item will be revisited June 11, 2026.
The commission also approved a road-name request from Willis Breen and selected Quiet Avenue from three proposed names.
