Shade Tree Commission plans Arbor Day planting, seeks grant-funded inventory and updates permit form

Commissioners agreed Errickson Elementary will host an Arbor Day planting of 100 Norway spruce seedlings, will work with Soil Conservation and an arborist to start a public-tree inventory and will update the tree-removal form to include a submission date and 12-month permit validity.
The Shade Tree Commission set plans for Arbor Day and advanced administrative steps for a new community-forestry inventory.
Danielle Parella, principal of Errickson Elementary School, agreed to host an Arbor Day program and tree planting; the commission ordered 100 bare-root Norway spruce seedlings for the event and will schedule a coordination call and site visit. The Megan Shullman Memorial Foundation offered to donate a memorial tree and to join the Arbor Day ceremony; Alan Walker will coordinate with the foundation.
On the inventory, Thom Ritchie reported he had contacted Paul Cowie and Soil Conservation about working with Tim Thomas, who has hired an arborist, Jacob Black, to support a Community Forestry Management Plan focused on public-property trees (parks and public rights-of-way will be addressed later). Freehold Soil may seek a grant to fund the project. The commission emphasized that private-property trees are outside the immediate inventory scope.
The commission also agreed to revise the Tree Removal form to include a submission date and to set permit validity at 12 months; IT will replace the form with the updated version.
Upcoming events noted under good and welfare included a rescheduled Total Pro Expo on Feb. 18 in Edison and the Garden State Tree Conference on Feb. 25'26 at Harrah's, Atlantic City. The meeting adjourned at 8:46 p.m.
