Hawaiian Gardens honors local students with scholarships and certificates

The Hawaiian Gardens City Council recognized scholarship winners at its June 10 meeting, with neighborhood counselor Christian Rodriguez administering the program and presenting certificates.
Christian Rodriguez told students he had helped with the interview process and praised applicants for their efforts as a former recipient himself. Winners were announced in athletics (second place Adrien Romero; first place Isabelle Cruz), civics (third place Benise Tudan; second place Estella Morales; first place Sebastian Ramirez) and academics (third‑place tie Eric Murio and Emmanuel Paramo; second place Jacqueline Artiga; first place Lydia Kario). Adult scholarship winners included Christopher Ivara (third), Shia Gomez (second) and Daniel Yorva (first).
Lydia Kario, the academic first‑place winner, told the council she will attend the University of California, Irvine this fall and said the award will help her academic journey: "I'm going to be attending UC Irvine this upcoming fall. So go Anteaters." Council and staff congratulated all recipients and invited attendees to a brief recess for photos and refreshments.
Staff said the city co‑sponsored an "I’m going to college" dinner with local partners; counselors from Artesia High School attended to congratulate students. City staff indicated they will follow up with winners to complete award disbursements.
