North Berwick grant update: EV charger bid denied; $13,300 stewardship award; $15,000 zoning grant applied for

Town staff reported mixed results on grant activity at the Jan. 27, 2026 North Berwick Select Board meeting.
Dwayne Morin told the board the town's Community Resilience grant application for electric vehicle chargers was denied: "the State received well over 100 applications and only 40 grants were awarded," and "we were denied," he said, adding that the town received a scoring sheet to guide improvements for the next application cycle.
Morin also reported a successful Land for Maine's Future stewardship grant: "We got approval for the Stewardship grant of $13,300.00 for Bauneg Beg South." He said this award will support stewardship for that conserved property.
Separately, Morin said the town applied for a Housing Opportunity Program Municipal Ordinance Development Grant with the Maine Office of Community Affairs for $15,000 — the maximum — to help rewrite zoning to comply with new state legislation. Chairperson Wendy Cowan asked when the town would know if it had been awarded the grant; Morin said "sometime in July."
The board received the grant updates as part of its new-business briefing; no formal vote was recorded on the EV charger denial or the Housing Opportunity Program application.
