The funding arrived as part of the federal budget Congress passed, and Dwayne Morin told the board, "This was a $3,400,000.00 grant," adding he expects follow-up conversations with federal staff and legislative offices. He said he is "expecting a call from Senator Collins within the next few days."
Selectperson Charles Galemmo asked about the total project cost; Morin said the town's planning estimate is "about $5,000,000.00-$6,000,000.00" and that the grant is part of a broader funding plan. He said the next steps are completing paperwork and bringing architects back to begin planning the building.
The board did not take a formal vote on the funding at the meeting; Morin presented the budgetary update as information. The presentation signals the town will move into design and procurement phases once federal and other funding arrangements are finalized.
