Boosters club and WY Foundation donations push playground project over funding threshold

The board accepted a $50,000 grant from the WY Foundation and additional private fundraising announced by boosters-club representatives, bringing roughly $53,000 in outside funds toward a new Northumberland Elementary School playground.
Christian Sherilla, co-chair of the boosters club, and Alan Garland, co-chair and treasurer, told the board they had secured the foundation grant and had raised roughly $3,000 more in private donations. The clerk confirmed the booster check was available for acceptance.
Superintendent and staff said the board of supervisors had appropriated $310,470 in CIP funds, while the playground proposal totaled $325,788.84; with the booster funds and club fundraising, the board agreed there would be sufficient resources to proceed. By voice vote the board approved moving forward with the playground funds and also voted that booster-raised funds earmarked for the playground be used only for that purpose.
The board recorded the playground approval as carrying 5-0; staff will proceed with procurement and notify the board of supervisors as requested.
Donations accepted at the meeting included $53,000 from the boosters (WY Foundation plus local fundraising) and several smaller gifts of supplies and equipment to support programs across the division.
