Aberdeen Town board approves temporary road closures for Odin Arena Strongman event

The Aberdeen Town Board on June 8 approved an ordinance declaring temporary road closures for the Odin Arena Strongman Competition, scheduled for Oct. 3, 2026. The closure covers South Sycamore Street from Maine to South Street with a requested window of 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the competition is planned to run roughly 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Staff presented the map and logistics and said the layout mirrors last year’s event. Organizer Evan Krenig and his sister Shelby were in the meeting to answer questions about setup, equipment and safety. The staff presenter said the early and late hours are to allow safe delivery and removal of large lifting equipment.
Residents and board members who attended in 2025 described strongman demonstrations and heavy-lift events as a draw. One attendee said, “If you haven’t seen it, you need to go out there. It’s insane,” and other board members noted last year’s turnout included visitors from as far away as Maryland.
A motion to approve the ordinance was made and seconded; the board carried the motion without recorded opposition. The approved closure and event permit will allow downtown businesses and staff to finalize street management and safety details ahead of October.
The town manager and event organizer will coordinate final logistical details, and organizers must meet town safety requirements and any permitting conditions before the event.
