The Weld County School District No. Re-5J Board of Education approved a financial request to support the Roosevelt High School Palms dance team’s nationals trip to Orlando, scheduled Jan. 27–Feb. 2, the board heard on Jan. 21.
Miss Kramer presented the request: the total trip cost is $25,323 for 13 students, and the Palms program asked the board to provide $3,247 to cover travel and related expenses. A board member asked whether the spreadsheet line labeled "fundraising activity" reflected funds already raised; Kramer said the $22,000 listed represented student club funds but agreed to confirm the spreadsheet details for the board.
Director Musk moved to approve the financial request and Director Proctor seconded the motion. The board approved the funding request.
Board members signaled support for student opportunities while noting the need for accounting clarity. Staff committed to follow up on the fundraising line so the board can understand how the club’s internal funds, fundraising and any district support combine to pay the trip costs.
Next steps: staff will verify the fundraising entries in the trip spreadsheet and report back to the board; the trip proceeds on the scheduled dates.
