Martin County awards airport beacon contract to Precision Approach contingent on additional state funding

County staff said the item would be placed on the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Board agenda in August to request the additional state funding needed to complete the project. No local match was required for the original grant; the award is contingent on the state funding the shortfall.
Why it matters: The airport beacon operates from dusk until dawn to assist pilots at night; replacing aging equipment is necessary for safe operations and to preserve airport usability. The contract award is contingent on securing additional state funds, so construction cannot proceed until that funding is confirmed.
