District to apply for $25-per-student construction grant; staff proposes security cameras and transition academy
Summary
The director reported a $25-per-student public school construction/maintenance allocation for the district (about $1.29M as stated in the meeting), noted the tight application timing and proposed using roughly $300,000 for security-camera upgrades and part of the remainder for a transition academy; staff will upload the application by Monday.

Director of schools Dr. Sullivan briefed trustees on a state public infrastructure grant allocated at $25 per student for tier‑one districts and described a tight schedule to submit an application ahead of the fiscal-year close.
"We have to upload by June 15th a application which is Monday," Dr. Sullivan said, noting the award amount referenced during the meeting as 1,289,738.119. Because the funding is allocated to a prior school year, the director warned the money may roll into fund balance and require a later request to appropriate it.
Staff proposed using about $300,000 of the award for security camera upgrades (an eligible construction/maintenance expense) and said the remainder could support a transition academy concept, potentially with one north‑end and one south‑end location. Staff emphasized that the application cannot reimburse work already completed; funds must be used for new construction, management or maintenance expenses.
Board members asked for additional input and named potential projects (metal detectors, camera systems and transition‑academy construction). Dr. Sullivan said the district will file the application Monday and return for any appropriation action after fiscal-year close if the funds arrive as expected.
No final appropriation vote was taken during the meeting; staff said they will bring implementation plans forward after the application process and when award timing is confirmed.
