Diesel student recounts state championship, will compete at nationals

Dylan Lane, a diesel student at the Career Center, told the board he has placed first in the Vermont State Diesel Competition two years running and that he plans to attend nationals in early June.
Explaining the competition format, Lane described hands-on diagnostics, a written portion, resume and interview elements and time-limited troubleshooting on a class‑8 truck. “You had the computer, you had to plug it in the truck… figure out everything that’s wrong,” he said, describing an event where contestants diagnosed a cut pin on a manifold pressure sensor.
Board members congratulated Lane and asked about scholarships and future plans; staff said Lane and two other students plus three advisors will attend nationals and that a student’s success also yielded scholarship offers. The board highlighted the value of SkillsUSA and similar CTSO activities for student development and recruitment into CTE programs.
