At the May 12 meeting the Middlebury Select Board made three personnel appointments and moved into executive session for contract negotiations.
The board reappointed Police Chief Jason Covey as the town’s emergency management director for a one-year term; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The board also appointed Jason LaRock to a two-year term on the Memorial Sports Center Commission and appointed Beth Dow as town treasurer following a charter change that moved the position from elected to appointed.
Later in the meeting the Select Board voted that premature public knowledge regarding two contract negotiations would place the town at a substantial disadvantage and entered executive session with the town manager, assistant manager, director of administration and the police chief present to discuss the negotiations. The board returned from executive session and adjourned the meeting.
Each appointment was made by motion, second, and a voice vote recorded as 'Aye.' No roll-call tallies were provided in the meeting transcript.
