Norfolk County Commission approves warrants and seasonal hires; director outlines budget and staffing updates

At its May 13 meeting, the Norfolk County Commission approved routine business including the open-session minutes of May 6, 2026; county payroll warrant 26-45 and school payroll warrant 26-25; several county expense warrants; and contingent appointments of seasonal golf associates for the Walter Recreational Facility.
Motions to approve the minutes and the warrants were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. The record lists the county payroll warrant 26-45 with a sum read aloud as $147,573.68 and the school payroll warrant 26-25 as $43,680.83. Multiple expense warrants were also moved and approved during the consent portion of the agenda.
In the county director’s report, staff announced an advisory board meeting that evening at the agricultural high school to consider the introduced FY27 budget and several small transfers and supplementals. The director reminded department heads that FY26 closing information will be distributed and noted that open enrollment for county employee benefits closes May 15. The director also said vendors are again expressing interest in potential solar charging-station projects and that the county will revisit that topic in future meetings.
The director noted the upcoming retirement of Carl Miner after many years of service and said the county plans to invite him to a meeting in late June or early July for remarks. No additional staffing or budget votes tied to the director’s report were taken at the meeting.
The meeting closed with a short recognition of a state trooper’s death and a motion to adjourn; commissioners recorded the adjournment and set a full meeting for the following week.
