Fraser converts drop‑attendant to full‑time streets position to improve continuity

Public Works Director Paul Johnson explained the position historically has been part‑time and difficult to staff: "Since the opening of the drop in 2018 it has been operated by a part‑time employee on Wednesdays and then on the weekends…the change to a full‑time position will allow for additional street operations when not manning the drop," he said. Staff said the change would increase the budget for public works salaries by approximately $30,000 to cover added hours and health benefits.
Johnson and trustees discussed what the employee would do when not on duty at the drop: the plan is to assign the worker to street operations (side‑by‑side, sidewalk clearing, and other non‑heavy‑equipment tasks) so they remain productive during weekday hours and staffed for weekend drop hours. The town will not require the position to hold a commercial driver’s license (CDL), so the employee would not be eligible for the CDL pay premium.
Trustees approved the staffing change by voice vote. Staff said at least one candidate has expressed interest and that the change should improve continuity and reduce the burden on existing street crews during heavy shifts and storms.
