Fraser trustees approve purchase of leased "Crescendo" sculpture for historic church

The Town of Fraser Board of Trustees approved the purchase of the Crescendo sculpture at the historic church on Feb. 4, 2026, following a recommendation from the town’s public arts committee.
"The pack is making a recommendation to buy the Crescendo sculpture which is at the church," said Sarah Wick, marketing and communications manager and staff liaison to the public arts committee, describing how the committee negotiated the sale. Wick told trustees the original price was $15,000, that leasing had effectively reduced the price over three years, and that the artist accepted the committee’s $10,000 offer.
Trustees discussed durability and the public‑arts program’s practice of leasing temporary works. One trustee noted the artist uses "exotic woods that are extremely durable," and staff said the piece remains in good condition despite its materials. Trustees also asked whether leased works would continue to rotate; public arts representatives said leasing will continue for many pieces but buying this work does not preclude relocating it in the future.
The board moved and approved the purchase by voice vote. The motion approved acquisition of the Crescendo sculpture for the town; no roll‑call tally was recorded in the minutes.
The sculpture will remain on display at the historic church unless the arts committee later decides to move it or place it elsewhere. The public arts committee confirmed budgeted funds are available to cover the cost.
The trustees moved on to subsequent agenda items after the vote.
