Greeley‑Evans board honors students, staff and announces new hires

The Greeley‑Evans School District 6 Board of Education opened its June 8 meeting by recognizing students, staff and schools for recent awards and achievements.
Superintendent Dr. Pilch and Assistant Superintendent Anthony Osmus led a series of recognitions: athletics participation totals were highlighted (about 400 fourth/fifth grade participants this spring and more than 1,200 middle‑school athletes over the school year). Northridge and Greeley West coaches and athletic directors acknowledged state qualifiers in tennis, golf, track and swimming and several students who signed collegiate athletic scholarships.
Central High was recognized for theatrical achievements: student and staff winners earned the Bobby G award for high‑school theater set design and production. The board also honored a student, Mauricio, who competed in the unified portion of the state swim meet.
The board celebrated Jesse Granados Ramirez as the Colorado Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year. Weld County Boys & Girls Club CEO Dave Dixon outlined the selection process; Jesse told the board he began as a shy student and credited district programs and the Boys & Girls Club with helping him develop leadership skills.
In career and technical education, Brenda Guzman recognized two Greeley West students who earned culinary scholarships: Emma Nautis (reported $15,500 in awards) and Tavan Casta (reported $7,500). Guzman noted students earned industry credentials including a Serve Safe Manager Certification.
Superintendent Pilch introduced several recommended hires and appointments on the agenda: Angela Sandy (assistant principal placement), Mindy Sandavville (assistant principal), incoming in‑house legal counsel Jiren Demo (start date July 6), and recommended chief of communications Michael Matthews (start date July 13). The superintendent also thanked outgoing counsel Nate Fall and recognized assistant superintendent Wes Tuttle on his retirement after decades of service.
The recognitions included photos, brief remarks and expressions of gratitude; the board moved on to action items after the presentations.
