Township approves police staffing changes, purchases and a subdivision extension

Director Hall requested three actions for the police department: (1) release Lieutenant Alex Militics from his probationary period effective June 9, 2026, noting he had completed requirements; (2) accept the resignation of Patrol Officer Nathan McDow, effective June 21, 2026; and (3) accept the Civil Service Commission eligibility list, which yielded two top candidates, Colton Gillingham and Zachary Cauldron.
The board approved the eligibility list and then voted to conditionally hire Colton Gillingham pending attendance at the police academy; the conditional‑hire motion was recorded as carrying by a 5–1 voice vote on the floor.
On procurement, the board authorized payment to LB Smith Ford for a Ford Expedition for the police department in the amount of $55,416, noting that with upfitting the total budgeted amount (approximately $84,000) would not be exceeded. Later in the agenda Director Powell presented and the board authorized payment of $19,900 for a Public Works utility bed (CoStars vendor) that was covered by the department’s budget line.
The board also accepted a 30‑day extension (to accommodate scheduling) for SLD 2026‑01 (neighborhoods 3–6), after discussion about phasing and concerns that combining multiple phases could delay paving and final road work for some residents.
Next steps: Conditional hire paperwork will proceed for the new police recruit contingent on meeting all conditions; staff will schedule the SLD resubmission and neighborhood coordination; Public Works will proceed with the utility bed purchase and continue the Cedar Cliff Drive speed‑study follow up.
