Castle Dale council names new inclusive playground 'Abilities Park' and highlights groundbreaking

Castle Dale City Council voted June 11 to name the city’s new inclusive playground "Abilities Park," approving the proposal after brief discussion of naming options.

At the start of the meeting David Sebring, speaking on behalf of the Sebring family, presented a check to the council and described the benefit of a similar park in St. George: "We've had a home now in Saint George for years, and we've seen the impact and the benefit of it," he said, offering the family’s gift to support the project. Councilmembers thanked the family for the donation.

Council members discussed several name possibilities for the accessible playground (terms used included All Abilities Park, Abilities Park and similar variants). Brad (recorded as the member who made the motion) said he preferred "Abilities Park," noting the name emphasizes inclusion. A motion to adopt the name carried in a recorded vote of attending members.

The council also reviewed photos from a recent groundbreaking and heard an update on construction logistics. The mayor said he had been sworn into the Community Impact Board and that the city is coordinating invitations for the ribbon-cutting; staff will return with dates and additional project details.

Next steps: staff will finalize donor recognition language and scheduling for the ribbon-cutting once construction timelines and any funding details are confirmed.
