HERTFORD — The Hertford Town Council voted unanimously May 11 to authorize submission of a $2.2 million U.S. Economic Development Administration grant application to construct a second point of electrical delivery at Marina Park.
Manager Doris Walton told the council Electricities is funding the grant writer and that the County has conveyed a large plot of land at Marina Park for the project. Walton said the second delivery point would provide redundancy for the town’s electrical service and support future growth. "Electricities is funding the grant writer, and the County has conveyed a large plot of land to the Town at Marina Park," Walton said.
The grant opportunity requires a 40% local match by the Town; at $2.2 million that match equates to about $880,000. Council discussed potential sources to cover any costs beyond the grant and match. The transcript records that Electricities and EDA representatives are confident the project will qualify for funding, though the council did not yet commit a specific funding source for the match.
Councilman Keith Rouse made the motion to approve Resolution FY26-7 authorizing submission of the application; Councilwoman Sara Winslow seconded, and the motion passed 5-0.
The town’s minutes note the project is intended to support growth and provide redundancy if the existing single point of delivery experiences planned or unplanned outages. The transcript includes the grant amount and the required 40% Town match but does not include detailed engineering estimates or a construction timeline; those items may appear in the attached presentation materials referenced in the meeting packet.
The council took no other formal action on the project at the meeting; next steps will depend on the application process and any additional funding decisions the council makes if the grant is awarded.
